The sixth annual Baltimore Innovation Week has already kicked off, and so I’ve been thinking, as I always do, about what’s different or special this year.
Most notably, we established a clearer organizing partner relationship with the city-backed Emerging Technology Center to, among other things, host most events during the week as free. It is part of an effort to make the week far more accessible, and ETC leadership (including Director Deb Tillett and Associate Director Jackie Albright, both pictured above, with myself and my colleague and reporter Stephen Babcock) and I hope it’ll just be the beginning.
As this year’s calendar shows, two other themes emerge, as also shared by coverage elsewhere. As Baltimore Fishbowl points out, we’re aiming to make BIW into Maryland’s true addition to the growing inclusive innovation movement nationally, something that needs lots of attention. And, as this excellent Baltimore magazine profile shares, we hope to increasingly make this part of a broader mid-Atlantic conversation. (The above photo is courtesy of Baltimore magazine).
