After trying last year, with just a week’s notice, we were able to coordinate to add to Philly Tech Week a conversation with Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf. I interviewed him on-stage.
With such short notice and a mid-day time slot crammed between two active PTW17 events, we only had 20 to 30 prominent members of the Philly tech community present, but it did allow for a genuine dialogue.
Before the conversation, I took Gov. Wolf to sit in on a coding workshop we were coordinating upstairs. An MIT grad and family business owner, Wolf has seen his approval ratings go up recently, but he remains the leader of a divisive state political system. Though he has expressed interest in open data and supporting business growth, he’s been aligned with a so-called ‘tech tax.‘
We talked about these and other issues with Wolf, who was joined on stage by With Sharon Minnich, PA Secretary of Administration, Krystal Bonner, Director of Digital Communications and Strategy, and Julie Smith, the Director of Data & Digital. It was among the first open conversations between Wolf and the Philly tech community.
