How well do you e-mail?
A few weeks ago I came across a simple, intuitive but worthwhile post on Seth Godin’s blog – an e-mail checklist.
I send lots of e-mails. In searching for a new job, in looking for interviews, in sending pitches for freelance stories.
So, I am immediately incorporating a few of Godin’s points into my style and thought they might help you, too – regardless of profession. I have some thoughts myself.
Last month I posted about my fulfilling internship with the Philadelphia Business Journal from the spring. Then I offered advice about attracting attention to your press releases.
I got some great clips there and learned more about newsroom dynamics, but I also got a taste of nine to five life. Business reporting didn’t get me out of the office much, and most often I was pouring over hundreds of those press releases and choosing one each week to profile.
I remember thinking then and came about it again. Is my life worth profiling, chosen by some idiot 22-year-old intern?
I’m scared of the answer.

House approves Lentz resolution urging schools to teach Taps
HARRISBURG, July 3 – The House of Representatives adopted a resolution (H.R. 803) Tuesday introduced by state Rep. Bryan Lentz, D-Delaware, urging the state secretary of Education to direct Pennsylvania school districts to provide training in the playing of Taps.

PHILADELPHIA — School District of Philadelphia officials today announced Ethelyn Young, Principal, Overbrook High School will unveil improved restroom facilities previously visited by Dr. Arlene Ackerman, newly appointed Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia, on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 8:30 a.m., 5898 Lancaster Ave., 1st floor.
The District’s operations, facilities, and maintenance teams began work on Tuesday, June 4th to quickly address facilities issues and provide students with basic restroom amenities.
